Salt Flats Outdoor Boudoir Shoot

Why should you do an outdoor boudoir shoot at the salt flats?

Firstly, the landscape is like none other. Miles of pure white ground contrasting with the blue skies and mountains. People travel from around the world just to see them. Offering this location to my clients ensures that they will get unique, stunning images in a location that most people will never get to see. Plus, why not break out of the box and try something different?

What are the Salt Flats?

The Bonneville Salt Flats are very well known and people travel from all around the world to experience them. At one point, it was a lake and it has since dried up making it an amazing place for an outdoor boudoir shoot. There is no speed limit when driving on it, and most of the time, you can find a pretty remote area away from any other humans. Yes, it tastes just like salt!

When do the boudoir shoots take place and how do I get there?

Salt flats sessions are held at least once a year and try to schedule them for early or late summer. It gets very wet out there the rest of the year and it’s easy to get a car stuck. Also, I like to drive my boudoir clients wayyy out on the flats to get away from other people.

Providing a unique experience and still keeping the shoot private is easier than you think. I bring a pop-up shade tent and position our vehicles to create a wall of sorts. In general, other explorers keep to themselves and we haven’t had any issues.

The Bonneville Salt Flats are located West of Salt Lake City, Utah and it takes 1.5 hours to get there. Once you arrive at the main pavilion, you will see tracks to drive right onto the flats. Before your shoot, I will send detailed directions for our setup.

What would I wear for my photoshoot and can I bring props?

ANYTHING YOU WANT!! Seriously, you don’t have to wear classic lingerie if it’s not your style. Wear a flowing gown, a sheet, a baseball uniform, a hunters vest, whatever. If it makes you feel sexy then do it. Clients often send me outfit ideas and we work together to spice it up and make it sexy. But, if you don’t want to worry about outfits, I’ve got you covered

As part of my salt flats boudoir package, you get professional hair and makeup, and full access to my client closet. Prior to the photoshoots, I will send you a video of the outfits that I carry in your size. The closet is filled with beautiful bodysuits, lush robes, bra and panty sets, and more ranging from xs-4xl. I have another blog post with more information on what to wear and where to shop.

When it comes to props for an outdoor boudoir shoot, the options are endless. Clients have used their vehicles, chains, smoke bombs, handcuffs, a kitchen chair, fabric, mirrors, weapons of sorts and the list goes on. If you’re doing the boudoir shoot as a gift, you could bring something that reminds you of that person. For example, let’s say your partner is a rock climber. We could use hand chalk to make hand prints on your body. Or, we could tie you up a little with the ropes. I’m sure you get the idea but I’ll share images below as examples.
